Today's Fantastic Friday started off with a final keyboarding quiz for the newsies, testing them on all of the keys, including letters and punctuation. We were so lucky to have a second special guest visit our class this morning, Ms. Robbie Dingeman, editor of the Honolulu Magazine. She brings a background of expertise in journalism as well as TV. She encouraged the newsies to always be active and aware of their surroundings, explaining that there's always something more you can be doing to be a better, more accurate reporter. Thank you, Ms. Dingeman!

Our students conducted their interviews today. They spread throughout the junior school interviewing different classes, teachers and students to get a feel for what it's like to be a reporter in the field.
Today we had special guest, Mr. Gordon Pang, talk to the kids about what its like to be a journalist. Mr. Pang is an accomplished news journalist for the Honolulu Star Advertiser and mainly covers what's going on in city hall. He spoke to the kids about news writing skills and the process of creating the daily newspaper.
Today the kids learned the bottom row of the keyboard, which is the hardest row! They also played different typing games to put their skills to the test. Today the kids also got to vote on the name of their newspaper and they chose the name of our class, "Punahou News Now."
Today the students continued to work on and finalize their feature articles. After completing a rough draft in their composition books, they typed them up on the computer to practice their typing skills.
Today our students focused on their own personal feature articles. The pieces of writing focused on personal experiences and the students were given creative freedom over what they wanted to write about. Many of them wrote about things such as meaningful experiences on family trips and favorite hobbies. The focus of their writing was to create a cohesive piece with a solid intro, body and conclusion.
For todays class, the kids finished their "Mini Me" projects, in which they used images, their writing skills and Microsoft Word to create a pamphlet that told us about themselves.
Today our class learned more about news reporting and captioning a photo. Our students also started their first typing lesson and learned about proper hand placement and which finger is designated to which key.
Today the kids learned more about reporting and the necessary qualities needed to be a successful reporter.
